Vaccinations

General info about vaccinations

At Østerbro Veterinarian, we provide essential vaccinations for both cats and dogs, safeguarding their health and well-being. Vaccinations are a vital aspect of responsible pet ownership, offering protection against various contagious diseases that can pose serious risks to your beloved pet.

Typically, puppies and kittens need to be vaccinated 2-3 times, after which the vaccine should be maintained according to an individual vaccination schedule. This schedule may change over time if the animal’s living conditions or exposure to disease change. We always conduct a health check-up in connection with vaccination, as only healthy animals should be vaccinated.

By administering vaccinations, we help prevent common and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Vaccinations work by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies, which effectively fight off infections if your pet is exposed to the specific disease in the future. Furthermore, regular vaccination not only protects your pet but also contributes to the overall health of the community by reducing the spread of contagious diseases.

As your veterinarian in Copenhagen, we follow the WSAVA’s recommendations for vaccinating dogs and cats, but also take individual considerations into account. Contact us to tailor a personalized vaccination plan for your pet.

Vaccines for dogs

Dogs are notoriously curious, and as a happy dog owner, you’ve probably noticed that your dog isn’t shy about exploring potentially infectious environments. Most dogs are also very social and enjoy playing with their fellow canines. Therefore, dogs are particularly susceptible to bacteria and viruses. Dogs’ playful nature makes vaccination a vital component against dangerous diseases.

The first vaccinations for your dog should take place at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. Typically, dogs are vaccinated with a core vaccine. We recommend that all dogs should receive this type of vaccine as it prevents Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, and Hepatitis. Additionally, optional vaccines are available for diseases such as Leptospirosis, Kennel Cough, and Rabies (if you want to travel with your dog).

Vaccines for cats

Cats are independent explorers. On their adventures, they often encounter animals and nature that possibly entails bacteria and viruses. Therefore, it is important that your cat is vaccinated according to a personalized schedule.

As your veterinarian, we recommend that your cat is vaccinated with a core vaccine. This vaccine protects your cat from diseases such as Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia. Additionally, optional vaccines preventing diseases such as Chlamydia, Feline Leukemia, and Rabies can be added based on your cat’s needs. We will guide you towards the best possible vaccination plan for your cat.
