Our surgical procedures

We perform surgeries on dogs, cats, and rabbits. Most of these surgeries are performed under general anesthesia.

We primarily use infusion anesthesia, which means that the animal is kept sedated via continuous administration of sleeping medication through a vein. This is the same anesthesia typically used for humans in hospitals and has the advantage that it is very safe, is quickly out of the body and therefore only very rarely subjects the animal to an unpleasant awakening.

All operations require the animal to fast beforehand. However, this does not apply to rabbits. We keep a close eye on your pet from surgery to recovery and advise you down to the smallest detail in preparation for the surgery.

Knee surgery

Dogs are explorers. They run free, investigate, and play because of their happy nature. If the knee is acting up, their physique is hindered. This can have serious consequences for their physical as well as mental well-being.

At Østerbro Veterinarian, we can perform surgery for torn cruciate ligaments – as well as loose knee joints / kneecaps in smaller dogs. The operations are performed after a thorough preliminary examination by our surgeon – but only if the surgeon agrees that the operation can benefit the dog in the future.

Eye surgery for cats & dogs

We perform eye surgery on both dogs and cats. Like humans, pets can have problems with their eyes. Some eye problems occur suddenly, others are congenital or hereditary. Whatever the cause, it is important to seek help if you suspect your pet has eye problems. As a pet owner, you should always take eye problems seriously. Do not put off visiting the vet for too long, as many eye problems can lead to reduced or lost vision if left untreated.

You can book an appointment for an eye examination with any of our veterinarians, as the vast majority are uncomplicated and easy to treat. If necessary, you will be referred to our veterinarian specializing in eye diseases.

Soft tissue

If you have ever had a cold, you know how difficult it can be to catch your breath. Now imagine that you must deal with this problem every day. Often, our pets cannot express their discomfort in the same way that humans can. That is why it is important to raise the alarm and get your pet checked if you suspect they are suffering from a soft palate or nasal congestion.

Many short-nosed breeds such as Pugs or French Bulldogs have trouble breathing properly. This typically causes them to gasp for breath or have noisy breathing. This can either be because the long part of the palate is too long, or the nostrils are too narrow. We operate on both. You are welcome to book a consultation for soft tissue surgery.

Diagnostic urology

Diagnostic urology is a branch of medicine that deals with diseases of the urinary tract. If you suspect your pet is suffering from a disease in the urinary tract, we offer ultrasound scans to accurately diagnose and localize the problem. These diseases can include infections, malformations, cancer and the like.

At Østerbro Veterinarian, we do not have our own ultrasound scanner, but we work closely with veterinarian Ulrik Westrup who offers ultrasound scans. Therefore, we can provide the opportunity for your animal to have an ultrasound scan in the familiar and safe environment of the clinic.

  I went today for the first time to update my baby's rabies vaccine  and had the best vet experience ever.  It was Louise who checked my dog and she was amazing. She is very caring and was trying to make it as comfortable as possible for my dog who is usually very nervous at the vet's office. With her he was relaxed almost immediately. She also answered all my questions and helped me with a health certificate for travel. I would recommend this clinic and Louise a million times!!!
